Popular Books I Have Not Read (Yet!)

Image
As someone who has been an obsessed reader since a young age and spends more time watching book related videos than reading....and sleeping; I always come across a lot of people talking about the same books. I add these books to TBR's and Amazon Wish List's but there are so many it's hard to get to all of them or afford them or even more new books come out and they overshadow the first ones - SO MANY READER PROBLEMS! 😖 So this piece is, as titled, a list of some of the most popular I have not read; some might make you wanna slap me or help me along in this obvious book drought I have mistakenly put myself in! First is the An Ember In The Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir, I have seen the gorgeous hardcovers all over BookTube and the online book community for a couple years now, what with it's sequel A Torch Against the Night already out and the third instalment ( A Reaper at the Gates) coming out so soon, I am constantly reminded that I have never read nor own

Simon vs. Simon!

Image
Okay, so I have been away for a while and it wasn’t supposed to be for so long but ya know - life. However, after this weird and unplanned hiatus, my book/film nerd soul could not sit in the shadows anymore, it needs to spill out and just cover you guys in all it’s nerdiness - did that sound creepy? I think I managed to write it not-creepy, yeah? Yeah. Of course as a return to Book Vs Film I need to talk about one of the biggest YA adaptations since…. The Fault in Our Stars? Very much like the film I just mentioned, many of us are still crying for this new one - for happier reasons than TFIOS I think. That movie is of course; Love, Simon! For those of you that don’t know Love, Simon is an adaptation of Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. The story is about Simon Spier, a teenage boy with friends, school work and one massive secret; he is gay. When someone who calls himself Blue, posts on the school blog site about how he is gay, everything changes

A Discovery of Witches Series? Let's Talk About Matthew Goode!

Image
Okay, so I am WAAAAAAAAAAAY behind on the A Discovery of Witches phase/moment/thingy, it is one of those books that pops into my mind every couple of months and I hold it in my hands when I visit the bookshop, but I never get it or forget to buy it when I actually have money. I reeeeeally want to read this book and according to the ONE person who voted on my poll (Shout out to you bae!⭐) it's a good life decision to read it this year. And then my journey began, I went off onto my online research of Goodreads averages and Amazon's second hand prices, when I stumbled on a little bit of news that the book has been adapted into a TV series that is coming out soon! So, instantly I thought; I have to read this book asap, not only for book bucket list purposes, but also for Book Vs Film so I can plan a whole piece around it. This is a usual train of thought with many books and has even had me completing some this year that I get to see in the cinema next month woo! THEN, there

Book Birthday: Queen of Ieflaria ARC Review!

Image
A happy book birthday to Queen of Ieflaria by the wonderful Effie Calvin! Being published today by Nine Star Press; I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy and get my eyes nibbling on these words just in time to talk to you guys about it and EVEN got Effie herself, to answer some questions! Queen of Ieflaria is a LGBTQIA/Romance/Fantasy novel with some of everyone's favourite and familiar elements from those genres, constructed in Effie's own way. Here is the books summary from the creator herself: "Whenever I'm asked to do a quick summary, it always sounds so silly, but here we go. Princess Esofi was betrothed to Prince Albion when she was very young. She's supposed to get married to him and become his queen when she comes of age. But when she goes to Ieflaria to do just that, she learns that Albion is suffering from a bad case of being three months dead. Next in line for the throne is Albion's younger sister, Adale, and so Esofi agrees to

Obligatory Valentines Recommendations!

Image
Well Happy Valentine's Day everyone, I hope there is an extreme consumption of chocolate planned for you all today, single or otherwise! Now, you can't just eat all that chocolate in silence, well I'm mean you could but...there are options....You could read a book, watch a movie? And since it is the day of looooooove, you know either has to be soppy right? It can be fantasy, badass and subtitled but, there should at least be a smooch....apparently. I'm just gonna stop rambling and get to the point, below is a handful of books and films that I recommend for Valentines Day, and any other day really, but all stories rather include a love aspect or completely encompass it, so if you want a chick read or watch here are some suggestions! Call Me By Your Name: Okay, so I was obviously going to pick one of my favourite love stories of all time first, wasn't I? CMBYN  follows Elio and Oliver in a small town in Italy in the mid 80's, whose intense love

You Can't Just Kiss Anyone You Want ARC Review!

Image
You Can't Just Kiss Anyone You Want by Marzena Sowa and Sandrine Revel; this is the second graphic novel ARC I have read published by Europe Comics and they are making some fantastic publishing choices! You Can't Just Kiss Anyone You Want  begins with a boy and a girl with their class watching a film about Stalin, one to promote love for him, the boy then attempts to kiss the girl who screams out loud and the film is stopped. Nice little everyday story about kids trying to kiss and the girl finding it gross, etc...etc, right? Nope. From this point onward we are then taken through the obsession and paranoia of those who the boy and girl are around everyday, teachers, parents, etc. During this Socialist Republic, where families have to travel for water and carry it home, where any free thought of or touching anti-Stalin is punishable, you are thrown into this realistic black hole of profoundness and I can safely say this novel will stick with me for a while.  T

Spectacle: Book One ARC Review!

Image
Spectacle volume one is a new multi-volume series by well known web comic artist and writer Megan Rose Gedris. This is Gedris' debut graphic novel and is due for release publication on the 22nd May 2018! Spectacle is about twin sisters, Anna and Kat, in the Samson Brothers Circus. For twins they are very different, Kat is a sleep-all-day, spiritual, knife throwing kind of girl and Anna is a early rising, sceptical, fake psychic engineer. However, things change for Anna, in terms of her belief, when she finds Kat murdered with her own throwing knives and comes back as a ghost. From there we follow Anna and the ghost of Kat as they try to figure out who killed Kat and what will happen when they do. I really enjoyed reading Spectacle , it was quick, fun and at times a little dark. There were a lot of elements and concepts that I thought were great in this story so far, mainly Anna's mechanical fortune teller, her Conjecture Engine, which predicts the future with statist
